How to count the days between two dates
Choose a start date and an end date and the answer appears immediately. The calculator subtracts one date from the other, so leap days such as 29 February are included for you. The order doesn’t matter: if your start date is later than the end date, the two are swapped.
Should the end date be included?
By default the calculator counts the days that pass between the two dates, so 1 January to 2 January is 1 day. Tick “Include the end date” when both the first and last day count, for example a leave request, a rental period or a contract that runs “from 1 January to 31 January inclusive”. That adds one day to the total.
Worked examples
- 1 January 2026 to 31 March 2026 is 89 days, or 90 days with the end date included.
- 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 is 364 days, or 365 days inclusive.
- 3 November 2026 to 31 December 2026 is 58 days, the time left in the year.
The same result is also shown in weeks, in years-months-days, and as a count of weekdays and weekend days. If you only want to count working days and skip public holidays, use the Business Days Calculator. If you need hours or time zones, use the Date & Time Difference Calculator.

Related questions this page answers
- How many days until a date? The start date is set to today, so just change the end date.
- How many days since a date? Put that date in the start box and leave the end date as today.
- What date is 30, 60 or 90 days from now? That is a different question: use the Add or Subtract Days from a Date.
- How many weeks is that? The result already shows weeks and days, and the Weeks Between Dates Calculator goes further with ISO week numbers.
Frequently asked questions
How many days are there between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later one. For example, 1 January to 1 March 2026 is 59 days, because January has 31 days and February 2026 has 28. The calculator does this for any pair of dates.
Does it count the start and end date?
It counts the days that pass between them. Tick “Include the end date” if you want both the first and last day counted.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. 29 February is included automatically in leap years such as 2028 and 2032.
How do I count only weekdays?
The result shows how many weekdays and weekend days fall in the range. To also exclude public holidays, use the Business Days Calculator.
Is my data stored?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent to our servers.
